Causes and effects of rising divorce rates
There are a number of reasons which have been closely attributed to the rising divorce rate in the community. First is domestic or physical abuse among spouses. According to available statistics, an estimated over 40 percent of divorce rates in the American community are a direct result of domestic violence (Amberkar, 2009). Alcohol andor drug abuse has been established as a leading cause of domestic violence and thus a major cause of divorce (Clarke-Stewart Brentano, 2006).
Financial stability problems are also leading in cause family breakdowns. In the current hard economic situation, failure by couples to appreciate collective financial responsibility in the family can lead to constant family conflict, an element which results to divorce (Amberkar, 2009). Such conflicts indeed have the potential of cause family abandonment by one party thus risking divorce.
Communication is a vital element in ensuring sustainable appreciation and happiness in a family. Therefore, failure of effective communication between couples is another aspect that has led to increase rate of divorces (Amberkar, 2009). This is because it is not only a sign of failed love and commitment but also a source of emotional stress in the family.
Sexual incompatibility, irreconcilable personality difference and difference of expectation between couples cause divorce (Clarke-Stewart Brentano, 2006). Failure by one of the member to bear child negates the underlying expectations of many families thus risking divorce. On the other hand, couples are bound to have aligned family expectations and compatible personalities as failure results into constant conflicts, ultimately leading to divorce.
Divorce has many negative effects both to couples and family children. Divorce leads to financial problems in a family. It has been established that most divorce case burden women with child rearing responsibility (Amberkar, 2009). This means that the now single parent family lacks the financial advantage of the father figure, a factor which compromises both the living standards of the family and the provision of quality education to the kids.
Stress and depression among children are caused by divorce. According to psychological evidence, children in divorced families tend to blame themselves for the conflict between their parents (Clarke-Stewart Brentano, 2006). Just to be stated here is that such persistent thought of guiltiness in kids as a negative impact in their social and academic lives.
Divorce between couples can be an emotional problem. Living in a united and happy family is the wish of every couple. Just to be noted is that most divorce cases are not by mutual agreement of the couples but a move by one spouse. This means that divorce leaves one party broken hearted thus risking infection with depression and even committing of suicide.
The process of developing character and behavior in children is negatively affected by divorce. According to psychological claims, reliable child development process calls for the contribution of both parents (Clarke-Stewart Brentano, 2006). This is because failure can instill a negative attitude towards one type of gender in the kid.
Lastly, divorce leads to societal discrimination (Amberkar, 2009). The society mainly perceives divorce victims as failures to the expectation of a family. This leads to stigmatization of the family thus compromising their social life. Still to be cited here is the fact that such have both short and long term negative effects on the kids. This is because it negates the societal responsibility of building character and reliable behavior in the young for ensuring a sustainable future human society.
